Can you share a bit about your background?

My name is Fred Fernando, and I am originally from the Philippines. I moved to Hawaii in 1996. For four years, I lived in Oahu before moving to Maui in 2000. The first job I held in Maui was as a resort houseman at Kapalua resort.

How did you get into Golf?

I had a co-worker who played golf at that time and gradually gave me insights about golf. At one point I went to play with him, and I have been playing ever since.

What is your most memorable experience you’ve had playing golf?

The most memorable experience was when I got my first hole-in-one on the hole #2-par 3 at the Bay course.

What was your best round of golf?

The best round I had was when I had a low score of 3 over par (75).

We always tell our guests that “the good one is the only thing you need to remember”. So, I have no memory of the worst round of golf. 😁😁😁

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

When I’m off, I make the most of it by spending time with my family. Because I have three small children, aged 7, 6 (boys) and 3 (girl), we always try to find what we can do for our kids so that they can have some fun. Like taking them to the fun factory, the beach, playground park, and taking them to the driving range.

Note: You might ask, when do I play golf? I play after work when I work the morning shift, once or twice a week.

What do you love most about living on Maui?

What I like about Maui is the simplicity of life. The pace of life is neither slow nor fast.

You can enjoy the beauty of nature wherever you are. Relaxing can be done at any time, even while driving with the ocean’s beauty.
